The Chinese Zodiac is an ancient set of beliefs used to ascertain the characteristics of a person and his/her destiny based on planetary positions and other astral phenomenon. It is also a system used to determine the auspiciousness of any particular plan for action one might have.

Western psychology has had its own methods of personality typing. Carl Jung developed a system of four dichotomies that can be analyzed and used to determine oneís attitude toward the world (introvert/extrovert), decision-making (thinking/feeling and sensing/intuition, and experience processing.

In the West, too, is its own Zodiac which has the same sort of animal-oriented characterizations of people. It is an interesting comparison to see that both systems are used to determine a personís character. Though these are not absolutes or solid scientific results, they affect how people regard and treat others.

It seems clear that both the Chinese and Western peoples use similar systems in many areas of life, such as, business, marriage and family. There remains the truth that these systems are based on ancient superstition and ritual. Thus it is not much different from depending on Tarot, tea leaves, or palm reading to help one make the difficult choices in life.
